Friday the 13th game delayed to 2017, adds single-player

Fan-requested features are coming

Friday the 13th: The Game won’t make its previously scheduled fall 2016 release window, creators Gun Media and IllFonic announced today. Instead, the game will arrive sometime in early 2017 so that the developers can add the “most-often requested features” to Friday the 13th, including a single-player experience.

Other fan-requested features, including AI-controlled bots, playable character Tommy Jarvis — from movies Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter, A New Beginning and Jason Lives — and Crystal Lake’s Packanack Lodge as a playable map, are also in the works.

“We want everyone to be assured that coming to our decision to delay was no easy matter, but we believe that the positives far outweigh the negatives,” said Wes Kelter, co-founder of Gun Media, in a release. “We've been reading day in and day out on our social media feeds that single player and Tommy Jarvis were in such a demand that we couldn't ignore our fans. After securing funding, we're here to tell you that it is a reality and we're making this game even bigger. It sucks that there's a delay, but the wait won't be too long and it's going to offer more for fans in the long-run!”

Friday the 13th was originally crowdfunded through Kickstarter. It comfortably met its $700,000 initial funding goal, but fell well short of a $1.625 million stretch goal that would have added single-player gameplay.

Gun Media and IllFonic laid out its release plan for Friday the 13th, which extends through next summer.

  • Late 2016: Beta release including 4 additional keys for friends
  • Early 2017: Multiplayer release with Tommy Jarvis and Packanack Lodge as the third playable map
  • Summer 2017: Single player release and AI bots

Friday the 13th: The Game is bound for PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One.
