Pyre, the third title from indie darling Supergiant Games, runs in native 4K resolution at 60 frames per second on a PlayStation 4 Pro, the studio announced today.
“If you don’t have a PS4 Pro, no worries, of course,” said creative director Greg Kasavin in a PlayStation Blog post. “We think you’ll find the game looks stunning and runs fantastic on your console.”
Asked for further details, Kasavin told Polygon that Pyre runs in 1080p and 60 fps on a standard PS4, with the potential for “rare situations” where the frame rate “fluctuates slightly.” He continued, “There should be no significant differences in the game's performance otherwise [between a PS4 and PS4 Pro], although in a rigorous side by side comparison the Pro version may run a bit better overall in some of those fringe cases I mentioned above.”
Kasavin noted that the PC version of Pyre — the game is coming to both Linux/SteamOS and Windows — will also run in 4K on a display that supports it. You can check out a 4K screenshot of Jodariel, one of the game’s party members, above.
Supergiant also announced today that Pyre will include more than 50 PlayStation Network trophies, including a platinum.
Pyre will be released July 25 on Linux, PlayStation 4 and Windows PC for $19.99; you can watch the launch trailer above. Interested parties can pre-order the game now for $17.99, a 10 percent discount. However, Kasavin himself — who reviewed games for many years before he started making them — suggested that people hold off until reviews arrive. Before expressing how proud he is of his team and Pyre, he said, “I would just as soon encourage you to wait and see what folks have to say.”
