James Gunn will tell another superhero story — but he’s crossing over to the other side. Warner Bros. confirmed to Polygon today that Gunn “is writing the next installment in the Suicide Squad franchise.” Warner Bros. did not confirm if the movie will be a direct sequel to 2016’s Suicide Squad.

This is the first big project for Gunn since Disney fired him in July, after a series of offensive tweets from a decade ago were surfaced by far-right reactionaries. Gunn’s dismissal was largely criticized by industry members and reporters, who called out Disney for giving in to the demands of politicized reactionaries. Even cast members involved in the first two Guardians of the Galaxy movies signed a joint letter to Disney showing their support for Gunn, and asking the company to reconsider its decision. Gunn later met with Disney chairman Alan Horn and Marvel Studios co-president Kevin Feige, but was not rehired.

If Gunn is working on a sequel, there isn’t too much information available at this point. Most of the original cast is set to return for the sequel, but it’s unclear if Jared Leto’s Joker, one of the more divisive characters from the film, will reappear. Suicide Squad 2 was originally supposed to start filming earlier this year, but Variety reported that production was pushed back until 2019. That means we shouldn’t expect to see anything from the Suicide Squad world until about 2020.

Update: We’ve updated the original story with Warner Bros.’ statement confirming Gunn’s hiring.
