Netflix’s new interactive experience is now streaming. The eight-episode You Vs. Wild tosses survival man Bear Grylls into the wild yet again.
This time, though, it’s not Grylls’ wits and resolute keeping him alive. It’s you, the viewer, at home on your screen, clicking through choices that could determine whether or not he lives or dies.
“I’ve spent my life showing you how to survive in some of the world’s toughest terrains,” says Grylls in the trailer. “Together, you and I are going to find our way back to civilization.”
Some of the timed choices presented in the trailer are “Climb Up!” or “Jump Down!” and “Walk!” or “Crawl!” Whether or not Grylls moves onto the next stage of this adventure or plummets to his untimely death at the base of a cliff is up to you. How many times will we have to watch Bear Grylls die?!
Unlike Netflix’s previous foray into live-action interactive media Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, the interface for You Vs. Wild includes a controller, emphasizing the fact that this is a game. Though Bandersnatch revolved around an aspiring video game creator, Netflix shied away from calling it a game.
