Disney has an ‘official’ Avengers: Endgame spoiler ban and it lifts soon

Guess it’s now #DoSpoilTheEndgame

The hype around Avengers: Endgame is intense — and so are the spoiler scares. While many have prepped their social media feeds for the stray spoilers, according to the directors, the “official” Endgame spoiler ban lifts this Monday.

The Russo brothers discussed Endgame on Good Morning America and when the subject of spoilers came out, the host asked if there would ever be a time when it’s OK to discuss the movie without fear of spoiling. The Russos say yes.

“Part of why we make these movies is for conversation,” clarified Joe Russo. “I think it’s Monday.”

That will come after two full weekends of the movie being out, which the Russos deem acceptable to start talking about the movie. They further clarified this spoiler ban lift on Twitter.

Unlike Infinity War — where a meme essentially laid out the devastating ending of the movie three days after it was out — the internet has been pretty tight-lipped and militant about Endgame spoilers. Part of it is due to a social media campaign headed by Marvel and Disney.

After footage of the movie ended up leaking and circulating on social media, the official Marvel and Disney accounts started to pump out the hashtag #DontSpoilTheEndgame. Marvel social media shared video with almost all the celebrities in the movie chanting “Don’t spoil the Endgame!” The hashtag even has an official emoji for it!

The spoiler frenzy around Endgame has sparked a bit of discourse. Whether you’re militant and think that even the Rotten Tomatoes score of a movie is spoilers or if you eagerly watched the leaks before the movie came out or if you fall somewhere between, there is no denying that discussion about spoilers has dominated social media for as long as Endgame has been out.

But with blessings from the Russo brothers, it looks like the so-called “spoiler ban” will lift soon and those yearning to discuss big plot points without abandon can now do so come Monday, May 6. If you haven’t seen the movie yet, now’s your chance before a stray meme spoils the Endgame.

Avengers: Endgame is out in theaters now. See it before this Monday or forever hold your peace about spoilers.
