Halloween outfits are always the best, but here’s a few of our favorites

No online game is complete without some form of seasonal Halloween cosmetic. While there are tons of holiday skins out there for Christmas and Valentine’s Day, Halloween outfits are always the best of the bunch.

We’ve compiled a list of some of our favorite Halloween cosmetics across a plethora of online games. We know that League of Legends and Overwatch have dozens of really good Halloween skins, but for the sake of balance, we tried to keep it to one cosmetic per game. We just can’t have those games taking over these lists, y’know?

Little Devil Teemo (League of Legends)

The running community joke that Teemo is the spawn of Satan was finally made into a reality with this skin. His little devil goat legs, his smirk, his horns — they are all perfect. — Julia Lee

The Howling Spirit (Final Fantasy 14)

I’ve already written a post about this, but the TL;DR is that it’s a cutscene-improving bedsheet ghost in a world of dope fantasy outfits. It’s very good. — JL

Flying Dutchman Sigma (Overwatch)

Two things deserve credit when it comes to Sigma’s new Halloween-themed Overwatch skin: the aesthetic design of the ghost-pirate skin, and its name. Flying Dutchman Sigma is both the name of a legendary ghost ship and a literal description of the character. Sigma is Dutch, he’s a man, and he flies (OK, maybe he floats). The design of the skin is superb, from Sigma’s reclaimed-pirate-ship-wood armor to the sea urchin-inspired redesign of his Hyperspheres. It take a lot to stand out amid Overwatch’s list of great Halloween-themed skins, but Blizzard nailed it.

Soldier looks like a stupid robot in a costume made out of garbage. It suits his character. The hat is also called “The Idiot Box,” so… — JL

Halloween Yurble (Neopets)

Listen, OK? The other Halloween Neopets all turn into devils, skeletons, mummies, and other sweet typical Halloween-themed creatures. The Yurble dons a costume that turns it into the Tax Beast, which is the Neopets equivalent of dressing up as the IRS for Halloween. And I think that’s really, really good. — JL

Skull Trooper (Fortnite)

Fortnite - Skull Trooper skin Epic Games

This is the absolute classic Fortnite skin. This skin was originally released in 2017 during Fortnite Battle Royale’s first Halloween event. As the game started to pick up speed heading into 2018, it became the universe indicator of an OG player and usually the best person in every match. — Austen Goslin

Castle Cleaning Expert Shaw (Arknights)

This skin is only available in the Chinese version of Arknights right now, but I am so excited for it to come stateside. Shaw is a squirrel, yet she is out here ghostbusting some kind of rabbit pumpkin gremlin? Love it. — JL

Mermaid (Animal Crossing)

The clam shells, the pearl detail on the skirt – it’s not just that this mermaid-style dress is very cute. It’s also that Gulliver sent me a beard that automatically changes to match the color of my hair, which was already changed to match the skirt. Combined with the fish purse I won at a fishing tourney earlier this year, and I have the perfect casual Halloween look. —Jenna Stoeber

Pumpkin Bat Costume (Mabinogi)

A bat-head hood and a pumpkin side bag? What more could you really ask for from a Halloween outfit? — JL

Happy-Happy☆Halloween Kirari Moroboshi (Idolmaster Cinderella Girls: Starlight Stage)

Y’all, not only is she in an adorable Halloween witch costume, but she has little floating ghost models in-game behind her. This is the really good Halloween content that I constantly crave. — JL

Cubone-costume Charmander (Pokémon Go)

Pikachu, Bulbasaur, Squirtle, and Charmander walk around a neighborhood while dressed as Mimikyu, Shedinja, Yamask, and Cubone, respectively. Niantic

There are only a few Pokémon Go costumes that are genius, and Cubone-costume Charmander is the best one. Clearly. (Mimikyu-costume Pikachu is a close second.) Not only is it adorable, it’s also got a ghastly vibe that’s perfect for Halloween: It’s pretty dark for Charmander to dress up as a fellow Pokémon that wears the head of its dead mother. — Nicole Carpenter
