Following Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ release, mobile game Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp has had its best month ever, according to app analytic website SensorTower.

Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp released in October 2017, and it allowed players to gussy up a campsite and invite their favorite villagers to come hang.

SensorTower reports that Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp hit a whopping 7.1 million downloads globally just for the month of April. In March, it had 4.5 million global downloads.

April was also the best month for user spending, racking up $7.9 million in global player spending alone. The only other time Pocket Camp came close to this was in August 2019, when the game hit $7.8 in global player spending.

In Pocket Camp, players can use real money to buy Leaf Tickets, which are premium currency used to speed up crafting production or buy special time-limited furniture. Leaf Tickets are primarily used to buy special fortune cookies, which award random items that match specific villager themes. In November 2019, Nintendo introduced a subscription service for the game that would give each player a campsite “helper” to complete tasks for them or a give a bundle of fortune cookies every month.

It’s safe to guess that Pocket Camp has taken off thanks to folks who either can’t get enough of the series or from folks who may not have a Nintendo Switch, but want to get in on the Animal Crossing action. Pocket Camp also has crossover features with New Horizons, which may have prompted players to redownload the mobile game in order to earn bonus items.
