Rian Johnson directed a cute commercial for Pokémon Go Fest 2020

God I wish that were me

Pokémon Go Fest 2020 is on the way, and this year is set to be an exclusively online event with special research tasks, competitions, and more. The festivities will be accompanied by a commercial directed by Rian Johnson, director of Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Knives Out, because sure, why not?

This commercial celebrates Pokémon Go Fest and Pokémon Go itself, as the mobile game hits its four-year anniversary.

There isn’t a lot to scrutinize in the short video; it’s only 30 seconds, after all, but it’s cute and charming and does a good job at showcasing lots of Pokémon to catch. I only wish that I could find a giant sleeping Snorlax in my living room. What a king.

In 2019, over 600,000 players attended three physical events around the world. With the event going online, it seems likely that this year’s Go Fest will be bigger. Tickets are available for $14.99, and all proceeds from the event will be donated to charity, with half being earmarked for Black gaming and augmented reality developers, while the other half will be submitted to local charities focused on rebuilding communities.
