Animal Crossing: New Horizons Mario update includes a working warp pipe

Items available on March 1

Ahead of a new Animal Crossing: New Horizons update on Feb. 25, Nintendo finally gave players a peek at the upcoming Super Mario Bros. crossover event. The announcement was made during Nintendo’s Direct presentation on Wednesday, but you can watch the clip above.

The Super Mario Bros. crossover event is in celebration of Nintendo’s Super Mario Bros.’ 35th anniversary.

Essentially, these collaboration items can be used to create your own playable Super Mario Bros. levels in New Horizons — with interactive elements like question blocks, flags, and warp pipes. Yes, that’s right; Nintendo is adding usable warp pipes to New Horizons. Place two, and you’ll be able to use the warp pipes to travel between them. Naturally, there are also plenty of Super Mario Bros. outfits, and yes, there’s Wario.

Other items include mushrooms, collectable coins, stars, Whomp blocks, and bricks, plus different rugs and murals to put in your home. Though the update is on Feb. 25, the Super Mario Bros. crossover items will become available via Nook Shopping on March 1.

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen Super Mario-themed items in the Animal Crossing franchise — it’s been a tradition since the original Animal Crossing. Items from Super Mario Bros. have appeared in all games since then, including mobile title Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp.
