Peacock announced the Vampire Academy cast on Monday, revealing who will star in the television adaptation of the Richelle Mead books. The 10-episode Vampire Academy series will feature veterans of Angel, Doctor Who, and Mortal Kombat, among others.

Sisi Stringer (Mortal Kombat) leads the cast as Rose Hathaway, the part originated by Zoey Deutch in the 2014 film. Rose is training to be a guardian of the Moroi princess Lissa Dragomir, who will be played by Daniela Nieves. Kieron Moore (Sex Education) will star as Rose’s primary love interest, Dimitri Belikov, a Russian dhampir and guardian who also serves as Rose’s mentor at St. Vladimir’s Academy. Meanwhile, Lissa’s primary love interest, the social outcast Christian Ozera, will be portrayed by André Dae Kim (Degrassi).

The Vampire Academy cast is rounded out by J. August Richards as Victor Dashkov, Anita-Joy Uwajeh as Tatiana Vogel, Mia McKenna-Bruce as Mia Karp, Rhian Blundell as Meredith, Jnoetta Kaiser as Sonja Karp, and Andrew Liner as Mason Ashford.

The teen drama is based on Mead’s six Vampire Academy books, which were published from 2007 through 2010. The book series follows Rose’s journey as she and Lissa are forced to return to St. Vladimir’s after running away two years prior. In the world of Vampire Academy, the half-vampire dhampirs serve as protectors to the pure vampire Morois, who top the vampire social hierarchy. However, any Moroi who completely drains their victims’ blood is transformed into a Strigoi, a class of corrupted vampires who are at war with the Moroi and their dhampir guardians.

The Vampire Diaries’ Julie Plec and Marguerite MacIntyre are heading up the adaptation, which was given a straight-to-series order by Peacock in May.

The books were previously adapted into a 2014 film starring Deutch, Danila Kozlovsky, Lucy Fry, Dominic Sherwood, Cameron Monaghan, and Sarah Hyland. The Vampire Academy movie was panned by critics and fans alike, grossing only half of its $30 million budget. Lovers of the Vampire Academy books are hoping the Peacock series will finally do justice to Rose and Lissa’s story. But it looks like they’ll still be waiting a while to find out; no premiere date has been announced for the Vampire Academy series.
