All character perks in MultiVersus

All the customization options for each of MultiVersus’ launch characters

Ryan Gilliam (he/him) has worked at Polygon for nearly seven years. He primarily spends his time writing guides for massively popular games like Diablo 4 & Destiny 2.

MultiVersus, the new platform brawler from Warner Bros., offers a wide variety of characters from various properties. If you want to pair Batman up with Shaggy from Scooby-Doo, you can do that. How about Tom & Jerry vs. real-life NBA superstar LeBron James? It’s all possible.

While MultiVersus is very silly in concept, it’s also an excellent fighting game with deep systems. You can learn many of these techniques from playing the tutorial and the advanced tutorial, but the game’s perk system — which is crucial to mastering your characters — is never really explained.

In this guide, we’ll take you through how perks work in MultiVersus and list out all the perks for each of the 17 characters in the game.

What are perks, and how do they work?

Every character in MultiVersus can equip three perks and one signature perk before each match. The standard perks can appear on multiple characters (although no character has access to all perks), and they fall into three categories:

  • Offense: Perks that increase damage to enemies
  • Defense: Perks that help you stay alive
  • Utility: Perks that increase non-damaging attributes, like movement speed

You’ll unlock these perks on a per-character basis based on your Mastery level with them, which you’ll increase as you play matches.

All standard perks can also be enhanced an additional level in team battles, which is called “stacking.” To stack a perk, both you and your ally will need to equip the same perk while playing together. At level six, all characters gain the ability to borrow perks from their ally, opening up some powerful combinations.

Signature perks are unique to characters and enhance character-specific abilities with new effects. Most characters have two Signature perks to pick from, but others have three.

All character perks and recommendations

There are 17 characters in MultiVersus, with two more on the way in the game’s first season launch (which has been delayed). Below, we’ve listed out all of the current characters, which perks they have access to, when you’ll be able to unlock those perks, and what they do.

Shaggy

Shaggy is a bruiser character from Scooby-Doo who serves as the mascot for MultiVersus. Because Shaggy isn’t a fighter in his show, a lot of his moves are a bit ... out there. He uses standard kicks and punches, but he can also pull a sandwich from the ground and throw it at enemies. One of his biggest moves essentially lets him go Super Saiyan from Dragon Ball Z (more commonly referred to as “Ultra Instinct Shaggy”), empowering all of his attacks.
