Oooh, shiny!

Julia Lee (she/her) is a guides producer, writing guides for games like The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Genshin Impact. She helped launch the Rift Herald in 2016.

Death’s Door has many collectables, referred to as Shiny Things, sprinkled around the world. Our Death’s Door guide will help you find all the Shiny Things in the game’s various areas, as well as explain what you need to find every Shiny Thing and how to solve any Shiny Thing puzzles.

There are 24 Shiny Things in Death’s Door. You’ll need to thoroughly explore The Urn Witch’s Manor, The Stranded Sailor, The Lost Cemetery, Castle Lockestone, The Hall of Doors, and many other locations to find them all. Many of them will require backtracking to early areas after you unlock certain abilities, like the hookshot.

We’ve listed all the Shiny Things below, in order they appear in the game’s menu.

Engagement Ring

From the main room in the Urn Witch’s Ceramic Manor, take the western path until you get to the ballroom. Defeat the spinning miniboss here (if you haven’t already) and climb up the ladder. Cross through the rafters to get to the Engagement Ring.

Old Compass

The Old Compass is in a crypt that you can access from a doorway right below the big door in The Lost Cemetery. You’ll need the fire ability to burn down a cobweb inside that blocks the entrance.

Incense

The Incense is sitting on the roof of the building near the gravekeeper in The Lost Cemetery. You can get to it by heading south of the large crow. It’s sitting in plain sight. No puzzle needed.

Undying Blossom

The Undying Blossom is in The Lost Cemetery, in the graveyard south of the Hall of Doors door. Look for the nearby green-roofed building in the corner of the graveyard. As you approach the building, the camera angle will turn, showing an entrance.

Old Photograph

From the main room in the Urn Witch’s Ceramic Manor, take the eastern path, crossing through the room with the single chair and the fireplace. In the following hallway, there will be a lantern you can use your fire ability on. Climb the ladder that appears after lighting the lantern, and cross the rafters to claim the Old Photograph.

Sludge-filled Urn

At the Urn Witch’s Estate (the garden outdoor area), head to the fountain in the center. From here, head to the western part of the estate. Look for a small gap in the bushes, and walk through it.

Walk toward the ladder to the north, and climb it. Use the tunnels and anchors to keep along the path. You need to do a plunging attack from a nearby ledge to get into the tunnels, and you need the hookshot ability to use the anchors.

Toward the end of this path, you’ll need to fight several swarms of enemies that appear from doors. At the end, you’ll be in an empty room with the Sludge-filled Urn on the side.

Token of Death

On the route to The Stranded Sailor (in the mountains) from The Lost Cemetery, use the hookshot in front of the waterfall to get to the Token of Death. Though you can access this area shortly after unlocking the fire ability, you won’t be able to actually get the Token of Death until you have the hookshot.

Rusty Garden Trowel

Head south from the entrance of the Urn Witch’s Ceramic Manor. Go west at the fire pit, leading you to a handful of pots on tiles. The back of the Old Photograph Shiny Thing tells you which pots to break, but for convenience, we’ve marked them above.

Use arrow to break these pots (using your sword might break other pots nearby). Once the correct pots are broken, the statute will move, leading you to an area with the Rusty Garden Trowel.

Captain’s Log

Walk through a secret passage in the cliff wall nearby The Stranded Sailor, south of Pothead’s tent. The Captain’s Log will be sitting in plain sight.

Giant Arrowhead

In the Frog King’s Throne Room, run straight past the arena you fought him in to find the Giant Arrowhead sitting on a ledge.

Malformed Seed

The Malformed Seed is in the Overgrown Ruins in the southeast. Use your hookshot to latch on to the anchor near it. To get to a high point, you’ll have to access a ladder that isn’t directly in your field of vision. As you approach it, the camera angle will turn to reveal it (though you can kind of see the top of the ladder from the normal camera angle).

Corrupted Antler

The Corrupted Antler is in the Mushroom Dungeon. You can see it as you walk on a bridge to the main room with the giant door. To get it, go to the room southeast of the giant door and use your bomb ability to break the wall.

Magical Forest Horn

The Magical Forest Horn is a mandatory Shiny Thing you must find to continue the game’s story. It’s in the Overgrown Ruins, and it’ll be toward the end of the ruins, if you’re just following the most basic path.

Ancient Crown

In the room north of the main hall in Death’s Door’s Castle Lockstone, dive into the nearby sewer cap, and then go south out of the room. Keep following the path to find the Ancient Crown.

Grunt’s Old Mask

A screenshot showing where to free the grunt from in the Mushroom Dungeon and where to get the Grunt’s Old Mask in The Stranded Sailor. Graphic: Julia Lee/Polygon | Image sources: Acid Nerve/Devolver Digital

In the Mushroom Dungeon room with the Hall of Doors door, there’s a trapped prisoner. Use the bomb spell to break him out and meet up with him later at The Stranded Sailor. He’ll have his mask next to him for the taking.

Ancient Door Scale Model

After you grab the bomb ability in the Hall of Doors, there are two unlit lanterns near the path back to the main part of the hall. Light these with the fire ability to access the Ancient Door Scale Model.

Modern Door Scale Model

In the Hall of Doors, use the hookshot on the lampposts near the center area with the desks. Hookshot from pole to pole on islands to get the Modern Door Scale Model.

Rusty Belltower Key

Once you beat the final boss, the Rusty Belltower Key will be in the center of the Hall of Doors, where all the desks previously were.

Surveillance Device

A split map showing where to walk through to find the Surveillance Device Graphic: Julia Lee/Polygon | Image sources: Acid Nerve/Devolver Digital

The Surveillance Device is in the Hall of Doors beyond a cracked wall that you’ll need to blast open with a bomb spell. The wall is on the route southwest of where are the desks are.

Shiny Medallion

Behind the cage lift that leads to the Old Watchtowers, there’s a keyhole in the wall. Hit it with your bomb ability to access a room that has the Shiny Medallion.

Ink-covered Teddy Bear

A map showing where to hookshot to fight a miniboss and find the Ink-covered Teddy Bear Graphic: Julia Lee/Polygon | Image sources: Acid Nerve/Devolver Digital

The Ink-covered Teddy Bear is to the southeast of The Stranded Soldier. You’ll need to hookshot across the docks and fight one of those big mace-wielding knights to get to it.

Death’s Contract

A split image showing a hallway entrance covered by wooden doors on the left, and a shelf noting where to find the Death’s Contract on the right. Graphic: Julia Lee/Polygon | Image sources: Acid Nerve/Devolver Digital

In Castle Lockstone, as you light up the lanterns by the graves of the Door Lords, one of them will open a grate to drop through. Drop through it, head through the tunnel that’s partially covered by wooden doors, and follow the path. This will lead you to a room with shelves and the Death’s Contract.

Makeshift Soul Key

A split image showing a ledge to hookshot on to on the left with the Makeshift Soul Key on the right. Graphic: Julia Lee/Polygon | Image sources: Acid Nerve/Devolver Digital

The Makeshift Soul Key is in the tutorial area, the Grove of Spirits. There’s an anchor in the southeast part of the map that you can hookshot to, leading you to the Makeshift Soul Key.

Mysterious Locket

A split map showing where to climb up to find the Mysterious Locket at night. Graphic: Julia Lee/Polygon | Image sources: Acid Nerve/Devolver Digital

At the Old Watchtowers right outside of Betty’s Lair, there’s a path blocked with ice that will take you to a dead end. However, this area has doors that will only open at night. Once you beat the game and get the Rusty Belltower Key, you can climb the tower to the north of The Lost Cemetery (near the entrance to the Urn Witch’s Estate) and ring the bell to make it nighttime.

Once you do this, you can enter the area in the Old Watchtowers and pick up the Mysterious Locket.
