Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is coming to Nintendo Switch on Dec. 7, Nintendo announced today.
The release date puts it less than three weeks before Christmas, and likely one of the last major games of 2018. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will include every single character from every previous Super Smash Bros. game, along with three new characters: Daisy, the Inkling from Splatoon, and Metroid’s ferocious villain Ridley.
The game features plenty of homages to classic Nintendo franchises as well as recent titles from the Nintendo Switch. For instance, Link wears his Champion’s tunic from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and his bombs have been transformed into the remote bombs from that game. Series staple Mario can utilize Cappy, and will can also wear his wedding tux from Super Mario Odyssey. And the Squid Sisters from Splatoon are an assist trophy, forcing the game’s camera to zoom in even closer, making it easier to be thrown off the stage.
Nintendo plans to show off more Super Smash Bros. Ultimate all this week at E3 2018 on its Treehouse stream, and it at the Super Smash Bros. Invitational tournament streaming Tuesday evening.
