The Last of Us Part 2 will include a multiplayer component, the game’s co-director, Anthony Newman, told Polygon at E3 2018.
“There is going to be multiplayer with the game,” Newman said. “We’re really excited to share details about it, but that’s going to be at a later date.”
The Last of Us launched with multiplayer of its own back in 2013 (and continued in the PlayStation 4 version, The Last of Us Remastered). “Factions” took the bog-standard deathmatch and team deathmatch game types found in many multiplayer games, and layered a metagame and story on top. Do well, for example, and you earn supplies for your clan of survivors.
Naughty Dog’s new gameplay trailer for The Last of Us Part 2 debuted earlier this week during Sony’s E3 2018 press briefing. The third trailer for the game offers a stark juxtaposition between emotion and brutal, bloody combat — which, now that we think of it, is a pretty apt description for Naughty Dog’s vision of life after the apocalypse. You can watch it below.
