Help this good boy serve his mistress, Ranni

Blaidd the Half-Wolf is one of the first characters you might encounter in Elden Ring, should you wander over to the Mistwood in eastern Limgrave early on. There, in the overgrown Mistwood Ruins, you might hear the forlorn howl of a wolf. And that’s where Blaidd’s quest begins.

Chapter 1: Meet Blaidd

Step 1: Mistwood Ruins

The Mistwood Ruins are located in the Mistwood, just southwest of the minor Erdtree there, on the heast side of Limgrave’s main landmass. Wander around there, and you’ll hear a mysterious howling. Sure, there are plenty of wolves around. But that specific howl is our boy.

Step 2: Oh snap

Next, head back to the Church of Elleh, near your starting point at the First Step site of grace. Speak to the Santa-looking merchant, 碍补濒é, who will teach you a gesture that should lure Blaidd out from his hiding place.

Return to Mistwood Ruins, and look up to find the Half-Wolf resting at the structure’s highest point. Stand below him and use the Finger Snap gesture by equipping it in one of the gesture slots in your main menu. Blaidd will hop down and make your acquaintance. And don’t worry, he’s not as scary as he first looks.

Step 3: Hunting Darriwil

Kale calls Blaidd “a good egg,” and the Half-Wolf apparently feels some quick kinship with you, because he immediately ropes you into a quest: He’s hunting for someone named “Darriwil,” a “traitor … in need of a fitting end to his tale.” To find him, you’re headed to the Forlorn Hound Evergaol in Limgrave, just south of the Agheel Lake South site of grace.

Step 4: Friendship through fighting

At the evergaol, you can summon Blaidd to assist you with the fight against Bloodhound Knight Darriwil. This may be a challenging boss if you’re still early on in your journey through The Lands Between; there’s no shame in leveling up and returning later. If you have access to fire or lightning items or spells, those can help, as his resistances to these elements are low.

Upon defeating Darriwil, Blaidd will appear outside the evergaol for a chat.

Step 5: A mutual acquaintance

Blaidd will reward you with some valuable smithing stones for helping with his quest, and advise you to go meet his pal Iji. If you’ve yet to make it past Stormveil Castle yet, this is where your journey with Blaidd will need to pause so you can make some story progress.

Once you’ve reached Liurnia of the Lakes, you’re ready to proceed.

Step 6: The road to the manor

In northern Liurnia, on the western shore of the lake, you’ll find a site of grace called Road to the Manor, where the giant blacksmith Iji resides. By telling him that Blaidd sent you, you’ll unlock the ability to buy the Carian Filigreed Crest, a talisman that reduces the FP cost of your weapon skills by 25%. Thanks, Blaidd!

Chapter 3: In service to Ranni

The next few times you encounter Blaidd will be as part of Ranni’s storyline. After making it through Caria Manor in northern Liurnia, you’ll meet Blaidd again at Ranni’s Rise, then again underground in the Siofra River Well, and once more at Redmane Castle when you fight General Radahn. Head over to our Ranni quest guide to find out exactly how to complete these steps.

Step 7: Return to the evergaol

With Radahn dead, Blaidd tells you to meet him where the meteor fell, but if you simply follow Ranni’s quest and head underground to the eternal city, you won’t see the Half-Wolf again until the end.

Instead, head back to the Forlorn Hound Evergaol in Limgrave to check in with our good boy again. You’ll hear him howling as you approach; stand in the center and you’ll have the ability to talk with him, then free him.

Blaidd will tell you that Iji imprisoned him there, although he seems unsure why.

Step 8: The truth about Blaidd

Return to Iji and you can find out. The giant will tell you that Blaidd was given to Ranni to be her shadow and follow her in all things, but with Ranni’s path diverging from the Greater Will, Blaidd is doomed to go mad.

That’s valuable context for what comes next.

Chapter 4: The end

Experiencing the end of Blaidd’s story requires finishing Ranni’s first, and you have a lot to do. Once again, check out our Ranni walkthrough to find out exactly how to help the sorceress on her path.

Step 9: Confrontation

With Ranni’s quest complete and the Dark Moon Greatsword in hand, return to Ranni’s Rise to learn of Blaidd’s ultimate fate; the Half-Wolf can be found outside the tower’s entrance, and unfortunately, he’s succumbed to the madness that Iji predicted. He was a good boy, but it’s time to put him down.

Doing so will earn you his armor set and Royal Greatsword, a colossal weapon that scales primarily with strength and intelligence. (By the way, if you’d like to complete the set, a helm resembling Blaidd’s face can be found nearby behind Seluvis’s Rise.)

And if Blaidd’s quest left you feeling hollow and empty, don’t worry — there are even more tragic storylines to be found for those who look hard enough in Elden Ring.

The next level of puzzles.
