Elden Ring Tombsward Catacombs guide

Find every item, defeat every skeleton, deal with the imp statue, and kill the Cemetery Shade boss

Here’s all the motivation you need to go inside Elden Ring’s Tombsward Catacombs: The Legendary Spirit Summon Lhutel the Headless. Those who have a Stonesword Key can also obtain the Nomadic Warrior’s Cookbook [9]. As this Weeping Peninsula dungeon is far from easy though, here’s a guide to help you survive the sneaky skeletons, fire trap, and more.

To reach the Tombsward Catacombs, cross the hanging bridge from east to west in the Weeping Peninsula region. Follow the path ahead for a bit, and then turn left (higher up the cliff) when you can. You will see a minor Erdtree as well as a big stone archway. It’s very hard to spot from a distance, but the entrance to the Tombsward Catacombs is behind that archway, on the right side.

Tombsward Catacombs enemies and items

Right after entering the Tombsward Catacombs, you will find an Imp Seal Statue. If you have a Stonesword Key, you can open the room behind it, take down the two skeletons, and loot the corpse for Nomadic Warrior’s Cookbook [9]. Hit the skeletons when they’re down (and the blue sparks become visible), or they’ll respawn.

Continue the main route to find a Summoning Pool and some tunnels filled with more skeletons and Grave Glovewort. When entering the room with the archers, watch out for a surprise attack from the right. It’s best to take down this sneaky skeleton first. Don’t forget to grab the Ghost Glovewort in this room.

A bit further ahead, you’ll come across a fire trap. If you have a ranged weapon, you can turn it off by hitting it from a distance. If not, wait for the fire to disappear, and then sprint toward the small area to the right, take down a skeleton, collect five Human Bone Shards, and sprint again to hit the trap mechanism with a melee attack.

In this area, you’ll find more Grave Violet, Grave Glovewort, and Prattling Pate “Thank You.” Be very careful though, as entering the room to the left will spawn four skeletons. The best way to make this an easy fight is to attract their attention, run back, and obliterate them using the fire mechanism.

Next, use the fire mechanism as a lift (hit it, and then jump on top), and loot the nearby corpse for Golden Runes. Just continue through a few more tunnels with skeletons, pick up the remaining Grave Glovewort and Grave Violet, and pull the lever to start the Tombsward Catacombs boss fight.

Tombsward Catacombs Boss: Cemetary Shade

Be prepared for a tough fight against the shadowy creature called the Cemetary Shade. This spectral Elden Ring Boss deals high damage with its swift dual blade attacks, and can also immobilize you with a slime attack. If you see a tiny green ball forming above the Cemetary Shade’s head, you know it’s about to shoot slime at you.

The biggest problem, however, is its ability to teleport. As it’s almost impossible to dodge every incoming attack (never mind parrying), distract the Cemetary Shade using Spirit Summons. While it’s distracted, land as many hits as possible. The Cemetary Shade is weak to Physical and especially Holy damage.

As a reward for defeating the Cemetary Shade, you will obtain the Lhutel the Headless Legendary Spirit Summon.
