The Batman pauses filming after Robert Pattinson tests positive for COVID-19

Production on Matt Reeves’ The Batman is “temporarily paused” after Batman actor Robert Pattinson tested positive for COVID-19, according to a report from Vanity Fair. Warner Bros. Pictures had only just restarted production on the film after shutting down when the COVID-19 lockdown began.

Warner Bros. confirmed to Vanity Fair that The Batman’s production is on hold, but did not name Pattinson. “A member of The Batman production has tested positive for Covid-19, and is isolating in accordance with established protocols,” a spokesperson said in the statement and confirmed that filming is “temporarily paused.”

Vanity Fair said it independently confirmed “through other highly placed sources” that it was Pattinson who tested positive.

Neither Warner Bros. nor Pattinson’s representatives have responded to Polygon’s request for comment.

The Batman was expected to resume filming at England’s Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in early September, Variety reported in August. Production was shut down in March — initially just for two weeks, but later expanded — due to the ongoing pandemic. In April, The Batman’s release date was pushed to October 2021.

A trailer for The Batman was revealed in late August at the DC FanDome event. Alongside Pattinson, The Batman stars Zoë Kravitz as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner James Gordon, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, Colin Farrell as The Penguin, and Paul Dano as The Riddler.
