Ryan Gilliam (he/him) has worked at Polygon for nearly seven years. He primarily spends his time writing guides for massively popular games like Diablo 4 & Destiny 2.

God of War Ragnar?k — the follow-up to 2018’s re-imagining of the classic PlayStation series, and Polygon’s 2018 Game of the Year — is nearly here. The story will pick up where God of War 2018 left off, with Atreus and Kratos heading into Ragnarok, the Nordic version of the apocalypse. In typical God of War fashion, Kratos and his son will need to tussle with notable figures from Norse mythological canon, including Odin, Thor, and Freya.

If you’re a fan of the original game or just looking to jump in with the sequel, you have a lot of different options when it comes to buying God of War Ragnar?k later this year. To help you decide which edition you might want, and what bonuses you’ll be eligible for, we’ve put together a helpful pre-order guide.

God of War Ragnar?k release date

God of War Ragnar?k will be released for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on Nov. 9, 2022.

If you pre-order God of War Ragnar?k, you’ll get the launch edition, which comes with two armor sets for Kratos and Atreus — the latter’s being cosmetic. God of War Ragnar?k also offers many different editions, both physical and digital. We’re going to take you through each of them.

Note: We haven’t yet played God of War Ragnar?k, and therefore can’t offer any kind of recommendation on whether or not the in-game benefits that come with some of these editions are worth pre-ordering for.

God of War Ragnar?k special DualSense controller

Outside of the game itself, Sony is also launching a special DualSense PlayStation 5 controller to mark God of War Ragnar?k’s release. It’s an icy-looking controller, with a cream-white base, black buttons and sticks, and dark blue grips. The big accent here is the blue wolf and bear insignia emblazoned on the white touch pad.

The controller will run you $74.99, and will be available for pre-order soon (it seems the first batch has already sold out). If you run into any supply issues, we had some luck directly through the PlayStation product store, which may require you to wait in a queue. If you can’t find it at any of the links below, keep checking back:
