How to Toast other players in MultiVersus

How to reward your enemies and complete your starter missions

Ryan Gilliam (he/him) has worked at Polygon for nearly seven years. He primarily spends his time writing guides for massively popular games like Diablo 4 & Destiny 2.

MultiVersus is the new Super Smash Bros.-like fighting game from Warner Bros. But instead of using Mario’s fireballs to pummel Marth, you’re partnering Batman up with Shaggy from Scooby-Doo so they can have a duel to the death with Arya from Game of Thrones and LeBron James from... the Lakers. It’s a silly game about brawling your buddies and random players from around the world, but it’s also about sportsmanship.

One of your first starter missions in MultiVersus — which you’ll need to complete if you want to unlock your battle pass — asks you to “Toast” another player, congratulating them for a match well played. In this guide, we’ll teach you what Toasts are in MultiVersus, and how to use them.

What are Toasts and how do you get more?

Toasts are consumables in MultiVersus, which you can spend at the end of matches to reward your opponent with some Gold and tell them they did a good job. Think of it like a tip.

You’ll start MultiVersus with a handful of Toasts at your disposal, which you can use to complete the starter mission (more on that below). To get more, you’ll need to either purchase 10 with 350 Gold (you can find your total Toast count and purchase more in the Collection menu) or you can level up a fighter to Mastery level three for five bonus Toasts. There are also opportunities to get more Toast in the battle pass.

Now that you know what Toasts are and how to get more, let’s talk about spending those consumables.

When you finish a match in MultiVersus, decline the game’s offer for a rematch and wait a few seconds at the battle stats screen. Before you move on to your next encounter, you’ll see a button above the enemy player’s scoreboard that says “Give Toast +1.” Click this button to spend one of your Toasts and reward the player with some bonus Gold and the knowledge that you respect them as a competitor.

More importantly, you’ll finish the starter mission that requires you to Toast a player.

The next level of puzzles.
