Rayquaza is one of the best Pokémon in Pokémon Go raids, so if it’s featured as a tier five raid target, try to score a couple of them. Our Pokémon Go raid guide explains Rayquaza’s best moveset, raid counters, and weaknesses.
Rayquaza best counters and weaknesses
To take down Rayquaza, you’re best off using ice-type moves. Dragon-, rock-, and fairy-type moves also work, but ice-type moves do double-effective damage against it. There are among Rayquaza’s best counters and weaknesses:
- Mamoswine with Powder Snow and Avalanche
- Galarian Darmanitan with Ice Fang and Avalanche
- Weavile with Ice Shard and Avalanche
- Glaceon with Frost Breath and Avalanche
- Mewtwo with Psycho Cut and Ice Beam
If you have the resources, Mega Abomasnow will also do some serious work against Rayquaza.
Weather always plays a factor. Snow boosts ice-type moves, wind boosts dragon-type moves, partly cloudy weather boosts rock-type moves, and cloudy weather boosts fairy-type moves.
Rayquaza best moveset
Once you get your beautiful dragon, make sure it knows Dragon Tail and Outrage. This is its best moveset. While you can replace Outrage with Aerial Ace if you need a flying-type attacker, its DPS with Outrage makes it one of the best in the entire game.
Is Rayquaza available Shiny?

Lucky players may encounter a Shiny Rayquaza. If you do see a Shiny, you’ll catch it on the first ball you hit it with, so use a Pinap Berry to score some extra candy.
