Pokemon Sword and Shield’s Turffield gym: Guide to beating Milo

Milo uses two pure grass-type 笔辞办é尘辞苍

Milo, Tuffield’s gym leader, stands ready to battle Game Freak, The 笔辞办é尘辞苍 Company/Nintendo via Polygon
Julia Lee (she/her) is a guides producer, writing guides for games like The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Genshin Impact. She helped launch the Rift Herald in 2016.

The first gym in 笔辞办é尘辞苍 Sword and Shield is against Milo, an easygoing grass-type expert who is based in Turffield.

Milo isn’t too hard since he’s the first gym, but if you want to be prepared for his fight, take a look at our guide below.

Turffield gym challenge

Milo’s challenge has you wrangling some Wooloo into pens. Simply run up to the Wooloo and they’ll roll away from you. Beware of the blocking obstacles that’ll make the Wooloo roll in different directions. There will be some small fry grass-type trainers standing in your way, as well. They shouldn’t be very hard, so long as you bring a fire-, flying-, or bug-type with you. After you finish herding your Wooloo, you’ll climb up the stairs and take on Milo.

Milo’s 笔辞办é尘辞苍

A Raboot takes on Milo’s Eldegoss Game Freak, The 笔辞办é尘辞苍 Company/Nintendo via Polygon

Milo uses two 笔辞办é尘辞苍 and they both have pure grass typing. Eldegoss will Gigantamax after he throws it out, so save your Dynamax until Eldegoss comes out. Dynamaxing to counter his own Gigantamax will help you avoid getting hit too hard, and will help you deal more damage to Eldegoss.

  1. Gossifleur, level 19, grass
  2. Eldegoss, level 20, grass

Recommended counters against Milo

Milo’s grass-type 笔辞办é尘辞苍 are weak against fire-, flying-, and bug-type 笔辞办é尘辞苍, so any of those will be helpful.

If you didn’t start with Scorbunny, Milo can pose a challenge. Here are some good 笔辞办é尘辞苍 to catch and evolve for this gym, as well as the easiest places to find them:

  • Woobat, psychic- and flying-type
    Found in the Galar Mine
  • Vulpix, fire-type
Found on Route 3 and Wild Area in sunny weather
  • Rookidee, flying-type
    Found on Route 1, 2, and 3
  • Caterpie, bug-type
    Found on Route 1

Turffield gym rewards

After being Milo, you’ll be rewarded with TM10, Magical Leaf, as well as a version of the grass-type uniform to wear outside of gym challenges. You’ll also be able to catch 笔辞办é尘辞苍 up to level 25.

The next level of puzzles.

Take a break from your day by playing a puzzle or two! We’ve got SpellTower, Typeshift, crosswords, and more.
