Pokemon Shield’s Stow-on-Side gym: Guide to beating Allister

Allister has a very spooky party of four ghost Pokémon

Pokémon Shield’s fourth gym leader is Allister, a ghost-type expert found in Stow-on-Side.

Pokémon Sword players will instead face off against a fighting-type gym leader, Bea.

Allister can be a tricky fight if you’re not prepared, due to the difficult nature of ghost-type Pokémon. Check out our guide below to help you out.

Stow-on-Side gym challenge

Allister’s gym has you spinning around in a vehicle that works similarly to a teacup ride from a carnival. You spin your analog stick to make it twist in the direction you want it to go, while letting spooky hands punch you into the right direction. Each time you clear a section, you’ll battle a gym trainer. After getting through the challenge, you’ll take on Allister.

Allister’s Pokémon

Allister uses ghost-type Pokémon, and he’ll Gigantamax his Gengar once it gets sent out, so prepare accordingly.

  1. Yamask, level 34, ground/ghost
  2. Mimikyu, level 34, ghost/fairy
  3. Cursola, level 35, ghost
  4. Gengar, level 35, ghost/poison

Recommended Counters for Allister

Allister’s ghost-types are weak against ghost- and dark-type Pokémon, but most of them have double typing, making it a bit harder to pick a compatible weakness for all of them. They all keep their ghost-type resistance, but using ghost-types also makes you susceptible to getting hit with super effective moves. Also remember that normal- and fighting-type moves will not deal any damage to Allister’s Pokémon, but normal-types also won’t receive damage from ghost-type moves.

Here are some good Pokémon to catch and evolve for this gym, as well as the easiest places to find them:

  • Drifloon, ghost/flying
Found in Watchtower Ruins in the Wild Area, Route 5
  • Duskull, ghost
Found in Watchtower Ruins and Motostoke Riverbank in the Wild Area
  • Impidimp, dark/fairy
    Found in Motostoke Outskirts
  • Sneasel, dark/ice
Found in Motostoke Riverbank in the Wild Area during snowy weather

Stow-on-Side gym rewards

After being Allister, you’ll be rewarded with TM77, Hex, and a ghost gym uniform to wear outside of gym challenges. You’ll also be able to catch Pokémon up to level 40.
