Pokémon Sword and Shield guide: Where to find Ditto

For any Pokémon Sword and Shield players who are interested in breeding Pokémon for competitive reasons or Shiny hunting reasons, there’s one very important ‘mon you need: Ditto.

Ditto can only be caught in the Lake of Outrage zone of the Wild Area. This area is only accessible after getting an upgrade to your bike on Route 9 that allows you to cross bodies of water.

The Transform Pokémon can be found both on the overworld map, mulling about with other powerful Pokémon, and as a random encounter in the grass. There’s a 10% chance it’ll spawn visibly in the grass and a two percent chance it’ll spawn as a random encounter in normal weather only.

If you’re having a hard time finding a Ditto, run back and forth around the grass patches. Running too far from them will despawn the Pokémon you can see, and you can keep doing this until a Ditto appears. It will, of course, turn into the very Pokémon you send out against it, so make sure you have something that isn’t too strong, or else it’ll knock out the poor Ditto in one shot.

One you get your Ditto, you can head to any of the two nurseries. One is in the Bridge Field zone of the Wild Area and another is on Route 5. Once visiting them, you can fly directly to them using the taxi service.
