Pokémon Sword and Shield guide: Where to find Charmander

You’ll only get one after beating the game

Pokémon Sword and Shield will let you have the beloved classic, Charmander and its evolutions. However, it can only be easily obtained after you beat the game.

Just like other Pokémon, Charmander and its evolution line does have a rare chance to be a Max Raid Battle target, but the only guaranteed method of grabbing one is through beating the game.

Once you beat Leon in the Pokémon League, you’ll automatically return home. If you head over to Hop and Leon’s house and go into Leon’s bedroom, a single Poké Ball with a Charmander inside will be waiting for you. (You can tell it’s Leon’s room because it’s filled with a bunch of hats.)

Don’t bother restarting repeatedly to try to get a Shiny Charmander, either — this Charmander is guaranteed to not be Shiny.

With that, you now have a Charmander that you can evolve and eventually Gigantamax as a Charizard.
