There are four different types of fossils in Pokémon Sword and Shield, and instead of each fossil turning into one Pokémon, you mix and match the different fossils to create different Pokémon.
There are four types of fossils in the two games: Bird, Dino, Drake, and Fish.
If you have a compatible set of two, there’s a professor on Route 6 who will allow you to bring them back to life. The compatible sets are as follows:
- Fossilized Bird + Fossilized Drake = Dracozolt (electric/dragon)
- Fossilized Bird + Fossilized Dino = Arctozolt (electric/ice)
- Fossilized Fish + Fossilized Drake = Dracovish (water/dragon)
- Fossilized Fish + Fossilized Dino = Arctovish (water/ice)
Note that the professor will only prompt you to revive a fossil if you have one of the correct combinations in your inventory. Otherwise, she’ll just talk about fossil Pokémon.

Pokémon Sword players will be able to easily find Bird and Dino Fossils and Pokémon Shield players will be able to easily find Drake and Fish Fossils. Players can find two of their games’ respective fossils near the fossil professor. An NPC in the Stow-in-Side Pokémon Center will give two of the other fossil. All the fossils can be found by paying the digging brothers in the Bridge Field zone of the Wild Area, though the rewards they dig up are random.
