In the Pokémon Sword and Shield Isle of Armor expansion, you can set one of your favorite Pokémon to follow you around the island.

To do this, you’ll have to beat Klara or Avery (depending on which version of the game you have) in the third and final trial at the dojo. Keep in mind this is the third fight with Klara or Avery. After beating them at the dojo arena, talk to Mustard and he will grant you the ability to run around with your favorite monster.

Whichever Pokémon is set as the lead in your party will follow you around after this. Note that they will only follow you on the Isle of Armor and not on the main Galar region land.

Any Pokémon can follow you around, even water-types that shouldn’t really be able to move on land. They’ll float around behind you on land, and submerge and swim behind you when you cross bodies of water. Pokémon will even keep up with you while you’re on your bike! Unfortunately Pokémon who aren’t suited for water won’t join you when you’re crossing oceans or rivers. They’ll just wait on shore for you to come back to them.
