Gotta get him to around level 70 before you take on either of the two towers

After getting Kubfu in Pokémon Sword and Shield’s Isle of Armor expansion, you’ll want to evolve it into one of its powerful forms.

After growing close with your Kubfu by visiting marked locations on your map, dojo master Mustard will open up access to the Tower of Waters and the Tower of Darkness. You’ll need to challenge the tower of your choice with only your Kubfu in your party. However, you’ll need to level it to around level 70 in order to clear the towers.

Kubfu is only level 10 when given to you, so you’ll have to grind quite a bit. The best way to do this is to use XP Candy, but if you don’t have loads of candy on-hand, you’ll have to grind.

While players early on in their Galar region journey can add Kubfu to their party to level up as they play the main game, those who cleared the game will have a different experience leveling their bear.

If you’ve cleared Pokémon Sword and Shield and have beaten Leon, the champion, all the Pokémon in the Wild Area on both the island and on the mainland will be level 60. You can use this to your advantage. We recommend doing the following:

  1. Empty out your party except for Kubfu and one very strong Pokémon. (We used a level 90+ Bewear. It just needs to be a Pokémon that can one-shot an assortment of level 60 Pokémon.)
  2. Seek out Chansey on the Isle of Armor and defeat them using your strong Pokémon. According to the Pokédex in-game, Chansey spawns in each Isle of Armor biome except the Honeycalm Sea. It also does not spawn in Fog.
  3. Watch your Kubfu rake in the experience.

Chansey is known for supplying much more experience than other Pokémon upon defeat (or catch).

You can also defeat other Pokémon you find. We recommend focusing on every Chansey you see just because of the comical amount of experience it rewards.
