Owen S. Good is a longtime veteran of video games writing, well known for his coverage of sports and racing games.

The Warhammer 40,000 canon is getting a live-action TV series made by Big Light Productions — the folks responsible for Amazon’s The Man in the High Castle.

Eisenhorn, as the series will reportedly be called, spotlights the major character Gregor Eisenhorn, the Inquisitor who starred in a trilogy of books by Dan Abnett that debuted in 2001. A news release from Games Workshop and Big Light said Eisenhorn will be based on these books (Xenos, Malieus and Hereticus). The world of Warhammer 40,000 is set in the near future, which blends themes of science fiction and fantasy/magic. In the books, the Imperial Inquisition to which Eisenhorn belongs is caught up in a shadowy conflict as war rages throughout the known universe.

“The appeal to me, from the moment I started writing him, was his complexity,” Abnett said of Eisenhorn in a statement. “He is not the simple, ruthless hero he appears to be. His battle with the Warp leads him into dark places and forces him to question his duty, his understanding of the Imperium, and his own identity. With Eisenhorn, it’s not just the adventures, and they are certainly vivid: it’s the journey he takes to the very limits of what he is and what it means to be loyal.”

Frank Spotnitz, Big Light’s chief executive and The Man in the High Castle’s showrunner, will also run Eisenhorn, with Emily Feller as executive producer. The news release did not say when or where Eisenhorn will air.

Abnett was also the writer for 2010’s Ultramarines: A Warhammer 40,000 Movie, an animated movie starring Terence “Kneel before Zod!” Stamp and the late John Hurt (Garrick Ollivander in the Harry Potter film series). Late last year, Games Workshop said it was developing an animated series based on Warhammer 40,000 called Angels of Death.
