Valheim guide: How to destroy items

Time to declutter the afterlife

There are dozens of things to craft and forage for in Valheim. However, you won’t need every single thing you make or find. So what do you do with your excess stuff? If you’re wondering how to destroy items in Valheim, it turns out you can’t — but there are several ways that you can deal with your extra things.

In this Valheim guide, we’ll show you how to deal with unwanted objects. We’ll tech you about techniques for storage, some cheats you can use, and other creative ways to get rid of clutter.

How to make storage in Valheim

Though your first impulse might be to try and destroy items that you don’t want, you could create storage instead. You never know when you might you need resources later. If you keep ending up with too much of one resource, create storage chests and hang onto those crafting materials for later.

A normal wooden chest only costs 10 wood. These small containers can hold up to 10 items. A reinforced chest requires 10 fine wood and 2 iron, but it can hold up to 18 objects. You can keep up to six valuable objects in a personal chest (10 fine wood, 8 iron).

For 2 wood and a piece of charcoal, you can create signs to really keep your items organized.

Leaving things to nature

If you truly want to get rid of items, there’s no way to destroy them, but they can despawn and disappear from your game.

Leaving objects outside of the influence of a workbench, like somewhere in the woods or just in a random hole in the ground, will make them disappear over time. It isn’t clear how long an item needs to be away from you and a workbench to despawn, but if you leave an object somewhere remote, it’ll go away eventually.

So don’t feel bad if you leave extra stones that you picked up while mining for silver. Abandoning them will eventually cause them to disappear.

removedrops console command

If you’re comfortable with using Valheim console commands and cheat codes, then you can use them to instantly get rid of things.

With cheat codes enabled, type in removedrops into the console. Doing so will remove all items dropped on the ground.

This is great for decluttering your home base or any area that is flooded with things you don’t need. You can even use this to empty your pockets without worrying about littering. Just remove items from your inventory, use this console command, and it will be like those items never existed.

A Viking funeral

Not the best tip, but fun to try

As a last resort, you can always load up unwanted items into a Valheim boat or ship, push it out to sea, and let loose a flaming arrow.

While a pile of stones and unnecessary mushrooms may not need the extra step of performing a Viking funeral just to get rid of them, you might have fun doing it.
