Jeffrey Parkin (he/him) has been writing video game guides for Polygon for almost seven years. He has learned to love just about every genre of game that exists.

Skyloft is the first area in The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD and serves as an introduction to the game as well as a sort of hub you’ll return to often.

In this Skyward Sword HD Skyloft walkthrough, we’ll guide you through Skyloft with tips on finding items, rupees, and collectibles and completing every quest and side quest. We’ll visit Skyloft’蝉 Statue of the Goddess and the Plaza, pick up a Practice Sword in the Sparring Hall, rescue Link’蝉 Crimson Loftwing from the Waterfall Cave, and attend the Wing Ceremony. After that, we’ll meet Fi and collect the Goddess Sword from Inside the Statue of the Goddess, and then do some shopping at Skyloft’蝉 Bazaar.

Table of Contents

Knight Academy

Once Link is awake and you’re in control, head to the wardrobe (armoire?) in the corner for a blue rupee (5 rupees). Head out the door and cross the hall.

Speak with Pipit and Owlan for some introductory information and controls help, and then head to the northeast.

Speak with Fledge. Help him out by picking up the barrels (not the pots), and carrying them into the kitchen. Set them at the top of the stairs inside, somewhere behind the old woman. Carrying something that large will drain your stamina, so you might have to set it down halfway there to catch your breath. Speak with Fledge when both are delivered for a red rupee (20 rupees).

Head through the main doors to the south.

Find Mia

Outside, Instructor Horwell will call to you. Save at the bird statue, and then climb up the wooden boxes by dashing. At the top, dash again to jump the gap. Speak with Horwell to learn that Gaepora’蝉 pet Mia is missing.

Dash at the wall behind Horwell, and shimmy along the ledge to the left. Follow the catwalk and jump the gap. At the end of the ramp, climb the vines to the roof.

Head for the crate directly ahead of you. Push it to the left and up against the wall. Use it to climb up to the roof.

Pick up Mia. Carry her straight back to Horwell — you can drop off the roofs safely. He’ll give you a red rupee (20 rupees) for your trouble.

Statue of the Goddess

Follow the stairs all the way to the north, and speak with Zelda (and Gaepora).

After the cutscene, head back down to Horwell and speak with him.

Find Groose in the Plaza

Over at the gate just east of Horwell, speak with Jakamar. He’ll tell you he saw Groose’蝉 bird chasing your missing Loftwing down by the Plaza.

You can’t go through the main gate, so head back over to Horwell and drop off the ledge there — the same way you climbed up earlier. Follow the path south.

Speak with Gully to learn how to roll. Roll into the tree for a blue rupee (5 rupees).

Continue south, and look for the three boys on the left (east) side of the Plaza.

Sparring Hall

Head north from the Plaza toward the Statue of the Goddess.

When you hit the bottom of the stairs, Pipit and Fledge will call you over and tell you about the waterfall where Groose planned to hide your Loftwing. Before you go, though, they’ll point you inside to speak with the Knight Commander.

Inside, head into the room off the back wall on the right. Open the chest for a Practice Sword.

Back out in the main room, practice slashing in various directions until you’re comfortable with the controls.

Waterfall Cave

Make your way around to the northeast of Skyloft and follow the path up to the wooden columns. Use your new sword to hack them down until you can get past.

Inside, follow the tunnel as it winds around. You’ll start running into enemies, so keep your sword out.

When you reach the southernmost curve, climb the vines to find a chest with a red rupee inside.

Keep heading north until right before the exit. Look for a platform on your right (the east side of the tunnel) with grass.

Climb up and chop down the grass to find a short tunnel with 2 red rupees inside. Head outside.

You’ll be on a narrow path underneath Skyloft proper. Hit the bird statue, and then take a right. After Zelda shows up, follow the path down.

Use your sword to cut through the ropes blocking the cave and free your Crimson Loftwing.

Wing Ceremony

Once you’re reunited with your Loftwing, you’ll get a quick tutorial on flying. When you’re ready, it’蝉 time for the Wing Ceremony to begin.

Everything here is straightforward enough, so we’ll pick up after the ceremony.

Skyward Sword

When you wake up in your room, check the wardrobe for another blue rupee, and head outside.

Follow the floating woman up the stairs on your right. She’ll lead you through the Knight Academy and up toward the Statue of the Goddess.

Keep following her down a path to your right. You’ll run into a cat that turns into a monster (a Remlit) and attacks you. You need to use the narrow ledge on the left to continue, but if you drop off the ledge on your right, you’ll find a chest with a red rupee inside.

On your way back to the main path, dispatch the Green ChuChu and you should also get a jelly blob for your Collection.

Back up top, continue following the floating lady. Use the ledge on your left to navigate around the corner. Keep following the path until you reach the Statue of the Goddess and get a quick cutscene.

Head into the secret tunnel.

Inside the Statue of the Goddess

Walk forward, and Fi will finally introduce herself. Retrieve the Goddess Sword. During the cutscene, you’ll also get an Emerald Tablet.

This the altar with a Skyward Strike, and then set the tablet inside. This will unlock the path through the cloud barrier to the next area.

Bazaar

Back in your room, you’ll get a new outfit. Head outside, and Fledge will give you an Adventure Pouch.

Head outside and down to the Bazaar. Start at the Gear Shop and speak to Rupin there. Grab the Wooden Shield for 50 rupees.

Next, speak with Luv at the Potion Shop. She’ll give you an Empty Bottle. Use it to stock up on Heart Potion for 20 rupees.
